The Notary’s House

Mas du Notaire, on the edge of the Camargue, at Gallician is full of surprises. The excellent Costières de Nimes wines are just one reason to visit. The domaine, which forms a traditional mas surrounding a sheltered courtyard, has been converted into five holiday apartments converted in a charming contemporary-rustic style. This is, however, a working winery: the cuverie, the cave and the tasting room are all here and Isabelle (maitre de chai) or Valère (ex-London somellier) give visitors and guests a taste of the wines.
The vineyards can be visited on foot or by bicycle. Each apartment has its own kitchen and there are restaurants within walking distance. If you get the chance to sample Monsieur Hafid’s cuisine then don’t hesitate – his delicious North African home-cooking is a perfect partner to the domaine’s serious Syrah “Mon Act”. Beware of the goose!
